Why now
Family Medicine is growing across Africa, but its clinicians are often isolated: a registrar in a district hospital, a medical officer covering a rural facility overnight, a family physician who is the only one in the district. Learning, evidence of growth, and collegial discussion should not depend on which institution a clinician happens to be in.
Initial pilot
Primary54 is being prepared for an initial pilot in four Family Medicine contexts.
- Ethiopia — Teaching-hospital and health-centre training
- Botswana — District-led family medicine practice
- Kenya — County hospitals and growing residency intake
- South Africa — Established registrar and CPD structures
